3. Calculator outputs are estimates

Every calculator on this site performs arithmetic on the figures you enter, under simplified assumptions. Outputs are estimates and projections, not predictions or promises. In particular, the calculators do not account for:

• Brokerage commissions, exchange fees, financing costs or bid-ask spreads;
• Slippage between your intended and actual execution prices, including gaps through stop-loss levels;
• Taxes of any kind, which can materially change realized returns;
• Dividends, distributions, stock splits or corporate actions;
• Inflation, unless you deliberately enter an inflation-adjusted rate of return;
• Variable returns — the compound interest and dollar-cost averaging tools assume a constant rate, whereas real markets fluctuate and can produce materially different results even when the long-run average matches your input.

4. Hypothetical performance limitations

Projections produced by these calculators are hypothetical. Hypothetical results have inherent limitations: they are prepared with the benefit of assumptions that may never occur, they do not reflect the impact of market risk on decision-making, and no representation is made that any account will or is likely to achieve results similar to those shown. Past performance of any market, strategy or asset class is not indicative of future results.

5. Risk of loss

Trading and investing in stocks, options, futures, foreign exchange, cryptocurrencies and other financial instruments involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor. You can lose some or all of your invested capital, and with certain leveraged instruments you can lose more than your initial investment.
